International Biathlon Day celebrated in Pale
The International Biathlon Day was celebrated yesterday in Pale, and visitors had the opportunity to meet current and former national team members in this sport, and try out precision using laser rifles. “Pale is one of the twenty places in the world, which the International Biathlon Union enabled to mark this day. All visitors could try their shooting skills, with new harmless laser rifles”, said the president of the Biathlon Union of Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ljubiša Tanić. He told the media that the event is dedicated to the youngest ages so that they will love this sport and become their members in the future.
The mayor of the municipality, Dejan Kojić, said that Pale has produced many Olympians in biathlon and cross-country skiing, and that is why they should think about the rules and categorization of sports so that Alpine and Nordic skiing are not in the second, but in the first category. “It was precisely these sports that gave the participants of the Olympic Games from Pale and represented their city and the Republic of Srpska”, pointed out Kojić. Biathlon coach of the BiH senior national team and vice-president of Ski Club “Romanija” Pale Tomislav Lopatić said that the Club has about 30 members who are in the training process and hopes to achieve Olympic standards in the future. “We are a club with a 90-year history and we have several participants in the Olympic Games. We lack a biathlon track at the Dvorišta ski center in Jahorina, where we could train on our home ground,” noted Lopatić.
General Secretary of Biathlon Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and one of the participants of the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2022, Sanja Kusmuk, said that biathlon was developed only in the area of the Sarajevo-Romanija region and it should be done in the Republika Srpska, but also in BiH. The organizer of tonight’s event is the Nordic Ski team “Romanija” Pale and Biathlon Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Source: news agency SRNA
