About us

The Biathlon Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is a voluntary, non-governmental, non-political, and non-profit sports organization where sports activities are carried out, and common interests and goals in the development of biathlon in Bosnia and Herzegovina are achieved, in accordance with the Law, the Law on Sports in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Approval for the Registration of the Biathlon Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina issued by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina under the number: 11-35-6-3365-VR/24 on June 6, 2024.

 

The Federation operates within the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Federation is a member of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina, joining based on the decision of the Federation Assembly and the decision of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina on membership acceptance.
The Federation is also a member of international professional sports associations (IBU, *International Biathlon Union*, abbrev. IBU, and others).

The Federation represents Bosnia and Herzegovina in biathlon abroad and in international organizations.
The headquarters of the Federation is located in Pale, Joce Eleka Street, No. 1, Pale.

The goals of the Federation are:
  • encouraging the development and improvement of biathlon in Bosnia and Herzegovina;
  • organizing and implementing a system of biathlon competitions;
  • promoting the development and advancement of competitive biathlon in Bosnia and Herzegovina;
  • preparing and representing the national biathlon team in official international competitions;
  • establishing international cooperation in biathlon;
  • ensuring the social reputation and protection of members;
  • improving and protecting nature and the environment;
  • cooperating with relevant state, social, scientific, and professional organizations, as well as other bodies and organizations, to achieve tasks of common interest for affiliated members;
  • encouraging participation in biathlon across all segments of the population, especially among children, youth, and persons with disabilities, thus contributing to the development, affirmation, and promotion of biathlon;
  • promoting the educational and moral functions of sports, fair play, understanding, tolerance, and responsibility through participation in biathlon and sports in general;
  • representing, affirming, and promoting Olympic values, Olympic education, culture, and the Olympic Charter;
  • other activities and measures that contribute to achieving the Federation’s goals.
The main activities of the Federation are:
  • establishing sports rules in accordance with Article 51 of the Law on Sports of Bosnia and Herzegovina;
  • planning the development of biathlon in Bosnia and Herzegovina;
  • registering athletes and maintaining necessary records of affiliated clubs, registered athletes, and professional staff;
  • providing support and assistance in the education of professional biathlon staff and organizing them;
  • establishing a calendar of competitions in biathlon disciplines at the national level in Bosnia and Herzegovina;
  • monitoring and verifying competition results, processing, and evaluating them according to domestic and international criteria;
  • managing tasks related to the national teams of Bosnia and Herzegovina;
  • actively participating in bidding and organizing international biathlon competitions to be held in Bosnia and Herzegovina;
  • importing equipment and material-technical resources for the needs of the Biathlon Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina;
  • other activities and measures that contribute to achieving the goals of the Federation.
The governing bodies of the Biathlon Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina are:
  1. The Assembly,
  2. The Management Board,
  3. The President and Vice President,
  4. The General Secretary,
  5. The Permanent Arbitration Body.
The Federation, in carrying out sports activities and operations, is obligated to provide the prescribed conditions for the safe engagement of athletes in sports activities, as well as qualified sports professionals for managing, planning, and recording professional work.
Professional work within the Federation is carried out by sports experts and specialists in sports in accordance with the Law on Sports, the Federation’s regulations, and applicable international standards. Professional work includes:
  • training activities,
  • professional training,
  • capacity building,
  • planning and programming the development of biathlon,
  • information and documentation activities,
  • international professional cooperation,
  • promotion, advertising, and marketing,
  • public information,
  • publishing activities,
  • professional business management and other forms of professional work.

The Federation acts as an organizer, sponsor, or participant in sports competitions both domestically and internationally, which are significant for achieving the Federation’s objectives.
When organizing sports events, the Federation is obligated to ensure their smooth and safe execution and to take all measures prescribed by law and the Federation’s regulations.
The Federation may delegate the organization of certain competitions to other legal entities.

The Federation is obligated to form national teams and create conditions for the successful operation of the biathlon national team, aiming for the best results and representing Bosnia and Herzegovina and biathlon sports in the best possible way.
Members of the national team must possess appropriate sports and moral qualities, and selected representatives are required to fulfill their obligations to the national team.
The rights, obligations, duties, and relations of the national team members are regulated by a specific code regarding the rights and obligations of the Federation’s members towards the national team, which is adopted by the Federation’s Management Board.
